The Accounting Study Program of UMY aims to produce accountants professional in accounting, globally oriented, able to adapt to changes in the business environment in the future and have an Islamic ethical and moral foundation. Professionalism is built through the establishment of attitudes and expertise of a professional accountant who has the integrity and mastery of expertise in the field of accounting. Accounting expertise is developed through a curriculum compiled based on studies of current and future stakeholder needs as well as the vision and mission of UMY. Graduates of the Accounting Studies program have advantages compared to other Accounting study program graduates in the mastery of public sector accounting and Islamic accounting. In addition, graduates of the accounting study program are also equipped with the expertise to manage IT-based organizations, with the enterprise resource planning (MERP) Monsoon certification. To improve the competence of graduates, the Accounting study program is processing the opening of the CPA Test Center in the even semester of Academic Year 2017/2018. To expand and improve the competence of the graduates of the Accounting Study Program, various activities are conducted outside the hard skills-based curriculum, such as Tax A and B Brevet, Sharia Accounting Office, Public Sector Accounting Office, Internal Audit Office, activities related to the Indonesia Stock Exchange activities and other academic activities. To support the competency based on soft skills, there are mentoring activities of Islamic Religion, Assistance, Bridging, self-development, Department of Student Association, interests and talents, Muhammadiyah Student Association and other non-curricular activities.

In detail, the Accounting Study Program of UMY prepares graduates with main profiles as accountants who are ready to work both in business and non-business institutions, including (but not limited to those mentioned) as follows:

Business Institutions:

  1. Auditor at Public Accountant Office
  2. Corporate Internal Auditor
  3. Financial consultant
  4. Internal Accountant Compilers of Company Financial Statements
  5. Finance Department in Manufacturing / Production Division
  6. Corporate Taxation Section
  7. Tax Consultant
  8. Finance Section at Banking Companies
  9. Finance Department at Insurance Company
  10. Finance Section in Cooperatives or Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT)
  11. etc.

Non-Business Institutions:

  1. Internal Accountant Compilers of Financial Statements in Government Agencies: Ministries, Hospitals, Health Centers, Education, and Regional Work Units (Service, Agency, or Institution)
  2. Auditor of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK)
  3. Internal Auditor at the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP)
  4. Local Government Planning Section
  5. Staff of the Director General of Taxes and the Ministry of Finance
